Trick or Treating

Trick or treating was a giant success. It is our first year back in town (we tried living in the country for a couple of years). Who knew our own tiny suburban neighborhood would be so good for trick-or-treating? My 8 year old was catwoman, and my toddler was Tinkerbell. Our neighborhood is only two streets (both cul de sacs), but by the end Tinkerbell's pumpkin was over half full! We didn't have to even get the car out.

I will post pictures in a day or two.

Halloween Party

I forgot to update everyone about the party. It was last Saturday. We had a pretty good time. I only knew a couple of people there, but made a couple of new friends. (Assuming that one girl remembered anything the next day.) Thanks to my sister, I looked very much like a gypsy. My husband (as usual) waited until the last minute to figure out a costume. Luckily he is a man of many colors. When he was in the Army, he took an EMT course out of boredom while most of his unit was in Kuwait. (This was before the current conflict, just a normal six month rotation, he and another Sgt. were left as rear detatchment.) After the EMT course he decided to work part-time as an EMT in the local town. He became friends with people who worked in the local emergency room, and when they told him they needed occasional volunteers, he was their man.

Wow, I got way off subject.

My point is, he swiped a set of scrubs, which he wore to the Halloween party.

Fiction Friday

Ok, this is a little poem I wrote to post on my door for trick-or-treaters. Since we won't be home (because we will have the girls out trick or treating ourselves) I thought I would try the honor system and leave a bucket of candy on the front step.

We are out,
Trick or Treating too.
But lots of goodies,
We left for you!

Don't be selfish,
Just take a few.
So other kiddies,
Can have treats too!

Fiction Friday is back!

Sleek and swift she slips through the night. A lone hunter. Creeping under bushes. Slipping in and out of shadows. Sleek black fur glistening in the moonlight.
Stop.
Silent and still. A slight turn of the ear. Crouching low. Golden eyes alert. Whiskers tilted forward. Muscles tensing, preparing.
Focus.

Pounce!

Did you know?

Samhain (sau-win), marks one of the two great doorways of the Celtic year, for the Celts divided the year into two seasons: the light and the dark, at Beltane on May 1st and Samhain on November 1st. Some believe that Samhain was the more important festival, marking the beginning of a whole new cycle, just as the Celtic day began at night. For it was understood that in dark silence comes whisperings of new beginnings, the stirring of the seed below the ground. Whereas Beltane welcomes in the summer with joyous celebrations at dawn, the most magically potent time of this festival is November Eve, the night of October 31st, known today of course, as Halloween.

Samhain was a significant time for divination, perhaps even more so than May or Midsummer’s Eve, because this was the chief of the three Spirit Nights. Divination customs and games frequently featured apples and nuts from the recent harvest, and candles played an important part in adding atmosphere to the mysteries. In Scotland, a child born at Samhain was said to be gifted with an dà shealladh, “The Two Sights” commonly known as “second sight,” or clairvoyance.

Ok, I'm officially addicted to internet quizes.

Your Inner Child Is Angry

You're not an angry person.
But when you don't get your way, watch out.
Like a very manipulative kid, you will get what you want.
Even if it takes a little kicking and screaming.

I found this quiz over at Sam's blog.

More about me.

You Are 40% Boyish and 60% Girlish

You are pretty evenly split down the middle - a total eunuch.
Okay, kidding about the eunuch part. But you do get along with both sexes.
You reject traditional gender roles. However, you don't actively fight them.
You're just you. You don't try to be what people expect you to be.

Social life?

My husband's new partner has invited us to a Halloween party. I haven't been to a party since...

Ok, I can't remember. Unless you count kids birthday parties. My sister is helping me put together a gypsy costume. I need ideas for my husband's costume. Something quick and inexpensive. My biggest problem is that I won't know ANYONE at the party except my husband, his partner and her boyfriend. But I only met his partner and her boyfriend briefly, so I hardly know them. I'm such an introvert.

If anyone has ideas about a costume for my hubby, please share.

Disney on Ice

We took the girls to see the Incredibles at Disney on Ice. My little one was excited to see the baby of the family, (they used a doll for him). When they showed him, she yelled "JACK-JACK!" Both girls had fun. It was little B's first time, but my 8 year old has been several times before. We had pretty good seats, unfortunately pictures never turn out good because of how dark they have to keep the seating area for the show.

My toenails

I painted my toenails black for Halloween. I haven't used black nail polish since high school. But my sister painted hers black and I thought it was cute. Guess that makes me a copy-kat!

Halloween

Black KittyI love Halloween! It is one of my favorite holidays. This year we have a huge light up pumpkin in our foyer window and orange lights around the doorway. There are several real pumpkins strategically scattered in the flower beds and several new mums planted. I need to add a few more mums and then I will take some pictures and post them.
Jack O' Lantern Of course we will wait until closer to Halloween to actually carve a jack-o-lantern. They look bad if you do it too soon. My youngest girl is going to be Tinkerbell this year. It is my older daughter's costume from when she was two. It has a tutu on it! My oldest daughter wants to go as cat woman. She has a black longsleeve unitard, headband ears, and clip on tail. I am having a hard time finding a plain black mask for her eyes, we may use black face paint.

Hope everyone else has a good time this year. Keep it safe, keep it fun.

Bunni

Bunny My husband brought home a white rabbit the other day. It had been abandoned in a friend's fenced in yard. He brought her here and let her loose in our yard, which she escaped from three times. We now have a proper small rabbit pen with a little hiding place for her to sleep. My husband and oldest daughter took her to the vet, he called to tell me it was definitely a she, and to find out her name. My little one always just calls her "bunny". To make it officially a name, I changed the Y to I and voila... Bunni is officially a part of the family. I wanted to post a picture of her, but I can't seem to find my camera. If I get anymore absentminded, I will forget my own name!

I gotta get me one of those.

This morning after my daughter's dance class we went to Chik-fil-a to eat breakfast. A man was leaving the same time as us. He was tall and thin, but not skinny and he a perfectly full head of grayish white hair. As I loaded the baby in the SUV and glanced over he smiled a beautiful smile. He got into a new red convertible Mercedes parked next to us. It was gorgeous, and I thought to myself "I gotta get me one of those."

Oh, I liked the car too.
