Fiction Friday ~ flashback

This is a poem I posted April 18, 2005. It was my 6th post. My blogiversary is in two days so I thought I would repost some old stuff over the next week.

Darkness

Surrounded in darkness,
The color of raven wings.
Alone and tired,
A place where no one sings.

Where am I?
I feel like such a mess.
It is familiar here,
A place called loneliness.

Shopping

When Mr. Kat found out about my recent fall and subsequent blues, he suggested I go buy a new shirt or something.

Because that's what you do to make a woman feel happy, you buy her something.

Right? (was that dripping with sarcasm? because I was really going for dripping.)

Since he suggeseted it, I decided what the hell?

So I bought a shirt. **

And then I bought some shoes. (Yes, the black ones are just like the new shoes Bubbles showed off in her recent HNT.)

I also bought a new spring outfit for each of the girls.

**I actually had a $10 gift card Belk sent me in the mail. The shirt was on clearance for $12.99, so with tax it was only $3 and some change!

Falling

I fell the other night. I was going down the stairs and my foot just slipped out from under me. I fell straight down and the middle of my back hit the stair, hard. It knocked the breath out of me and I felt myself slide down a few more stairs but couldn't react. Then I just laid there a minute until I could breathe again. Then all I could think was that I needed a new shirt. The mostly empty cup of tea I had in my hand spilled on me. Then I realized I had hit the back of my head too. I don't remember hitting it, but it hurt. My back was fine. Not even a bruise.

Sitting there on the stairs, I suddenly realized I had never felt more alone in my life as I did at that moment.

I know I haven't said much about my husband being overseas. I worry about him, and where he is. I want him to be safe and come back in one piece. But to be honest we have been emotionally separated for a very long time. I am lonely and I have been for years.

I usually stay quiet about stuff like this. I hold it in. But I'm tired of holding it in. So here it is. Out in cyberspace for anyone to see.

School musical

My third grader had a music performance at school a couple of weeks ago. The music was about education and stuff, so she wore her kindergarten graduation outfit. It's pink. She's right there on the front row. It was really cute, and they all did a good job. She was so excited.

Friday's Sins

Ok, remember a while back I wrote a little story that was picked up by Chris who wrote a second chapter, and then Rayna wrote a chapter, then Simon, Tanya, Dori, and Jackie. Well, we collected all the chapters and put them together in one blog we call Friday's Sins. Chris fixed up it up to look nice, and I finally added Chapter 8. More chapters will follow, so be sure to check it out!

This bitch is PISSED

I have had trouble logging into my Gmail account all weekend. Yesterday I was able to get into it before bed, I haven't been able to get in it all day today. I sent the help desk a message and what did I get in return? This message:

"Thank you for your report. We apologize for any confusion or
inconvenience. For your security, we have temporarily disabled access
because our system detected abnormal usage."

WTF??? So I can't get into my account because I USED it?? I am so furious! It is frustrating to sit here and not be able to get into my account at ALL!!! Is anyone else having trouble or know how I can fix this?

New music theme

This weeks music theme is "Ladies of Country". No groaning allowed! I'm from Tennessee, durn it. I got country in my roots.

Anywho, whether you like country or not, you really should listen to this first song by Ms. Deana Carter. It's hilarious! The name is "Did I Shave My Legs for This?" a question I find myself asking a lot! I'm putting the lyrics up too, so fake a twang if you ain't already got one, and sing along!

Flowers and wine is what I thought I would find
When I came home from working tonight
Well now here I stand, over this frying pan
And you want a cold one again

I bought these new heels, did my nails
Had my hair done just right
I thought this new dress was a sure bet
For romance tonight
Well it's perfectly clear, between the TV and beer
I won't get so much as a kiss
As I head for the door I turn around to be sure
Did I shave my legs for this

Now when we first met you promised we'd get
A house on a hill with a pool
Well this trailer stays wet and we're swimmin' in debt
And now you want me to go back to school

I bought these new heels, did my nails
Had my hair done just right
I thought this new dress was a sure bet
For romance tonight
Well it's perfectly clear, between the TV and beer
I won't get so much as a kiss
As I head for the door I turn around to be sure
Did I shave my legs for this?

Darlin' did I shave my legs for this?

Movie night #2

Tonight I saw Walk the Line about Johnny Cash. Of course I already love Johnny's music, I'm from Tennessee, ain't I? The movie showed more than just his career. It was mostly the love story of him and June. She was a really great lady. It also showed his fall into drug addiction and how he overcame it, with June's help. Really great movie, go see it!

Spring is here!

Movie night

Tonight was movie night for me. I actually rented a couple of movies several nights ago, but only felt like watching one tonight. So Charlie and I snuggled on the couch with a comfy blanket and watched the newest Harry Potter movie. Although I don't know how anyone who hasn't read the books manages to keep up with what is going on. So much is left out. But, if you are a Harry Potter fan and haven't seen it yet, go get it. The kids they have playing the characters are so great at it. Whoever originally cast them was a genius.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day

Voulez vous coucher avec moi

Tonight's song is from one of my all-time favorite movies. And look at all the awesome singers in it too! Although Christina's hair, omg! Pink is just awesome and Mya is just gorgeous. I have the soundtrack, and I know all the words to the best songs on it.

We independent women, some mistake us for whores
I'm sayin‘, why spend mine when I can spend yours
Disagree? Well that's you and I’m sorry
Imma keep playing these cats out like Atari

[Christina:]

Time for a new music video theme

So it's time to change the music theme again. This week all songs will be from a movie. Just for funsies, how about everyone try to pick what movie. Considering most of the videos have clips from the movie in them, it won't be to hard.

Remember, every night between 7-10 I will change the video.

Next week's theme Women of Country (sorry Xmichra).

Life interrupting

I have been so busy this weekend. Saturday started with tap class for the oldest. Then we had to kill an hour before going back for an hour long meeting about the upcoming recital. Between both tap and ballet rehearsals, we are going to be busy every weekend for all of April and May. So after the meeting we rushed over to T's school where they were having Spring Fling. That is where the PTA of T's school set up games and stuff which take tickets which we buy to collect money. It's a brand new school, and the playground equipment which was only installed last week needs to be paid for. I always thought that was the county's job, but hell, what do I know.

Anywho, we didn't get home until after 2 and poor little B was just exhausted, her nap is usually noon at the latest. The rest of the day was spent resting from the first of the day.

So this morning I get up to take the kids to church because I'm supposed to. Right? We haven't been in a couple of months and I've run out of good excuses. So we get up, get ready, go. B stays in the nursery all of ten minutes before I'm told she is crying her eyes out and wants her Momma. So I go get her. I then spend most of the next hour telling T (who is old enough to know better) to "shush!" and trying to keep B sitting still (yeah right, SHE'S TWO!). So I'm wondering, why am I there??

After church we have time to change and eat lunch before going off again to a makeup tap class. They missed one week because of the weather and we needed to make up the time. Once again poor little B didn't get her nap until after 2. Hopefully things will move a little slower next week. And Sunday has officially become the day we sleep late!

On a sidenote, now that Chris has put up his interview for Rayna I feel guilty for not doing all the interviews I was supposed to do. So I will try to work on those this week. Rae Ann let me off the hook because I was sick for a while, but I will still do it if she wants me to. I am supposed to do one for Rayna and one for Sar. So, there's something to look forward to!

Joke

I got this in an email, and was laughing so hard I just had to share!

Woman shower vs. Man shower

How To Shower Like a Woman:

Take off clothing and place it in sectioned laundry hamper according to lights and darks.
Walk to bathroom wearing long dressing gown.
If you see husband along the way, cover up any exposed areas.
Look at your womanly physique in the mirror - make mental note to do more sit-ups/leg-lifts, etc.
Get in the shower. Use face cloth, arm cloth, leg cloth, long loofah, wide loofah and pumice stone.
Wash your hair once with cucumber and sage shampoo with 43 added vitamins.
Washyour hair again to make sure it's clean.
Condition your hair with grapefruit mint conditioner enhanced with real passion fruit.
Wash your face with crushed apricot facial scrub for 10 minutes until red.
Wash entire rest of body with ginger nut and jaffa cake body wash.
Rinse conditioner off hair.
Shave armpits and legs.
Turn off shower.
Squeegee off all wet surfaces in shower.
Spray mold spots with Tilex.
Get out of shower and stand on bathmat.
Dry with towel the size of a small country.
Wrap hair in super absorbent towel.
Return to bedroom wearing long dressing gown and towel on head.
If you see husband along the way, cover up any exposed areas.

*****************************************************************************

How To Shower Like a Man:

Take off clothes while sitting on the edge of the bed and leave them in a pile.
Walk naked to the bathroom.
If you see wife along the way, shake wiener at her making the woo-woo' sound.
Look at your manly physique in the mirror.
Admire the size of your wiener and scratch your ass.
Get in the shower Wash your face. Wash your armpits.
Blow your nose in your hands and let the water rinse them off.
Fart and laugh at how loud it sounds in the shower.
Spend majority of time washing privates and surrounding area.
Wash your butt, leaving those coarse butt hairs stuck on the soap.
Wash your hair. Make a Shampoo Mohawk. Pee.
Rinse off and get out of shower. Avoid bathmat.
Dry off forearms and butt only.
Fail to notice water on floor because curtain was hanging out of tub the whole time.
Admire wiener size in mirror again. Shake it to watch water fly off.
Leave shower curtain open, wet mat on floor, light and fan on.
Return to bedroom with towel around waist.
If you pass wife, pull off towel, shake wiener at her and make the woo-woo' sound again.
Throw wet towel on bed.

Excited

I finally felt well enough to spend more time working on my bathroom. I painted around the door and over the sinks. It doesn't sound like much, but it took FOREVER to trim around the counter, door, ceiling, mirror, and light fixture above the mirror. The trim work is done in that area as well as the first coat of paint with the roller. Tonight after NCIS I will trim around the shower and linen closet, put a first coat with the roller in that area, add a second coat around the sink, then hopefully it will be dry enough for the second coat around the shower. I'm almost done! The cabinets need a fresh coat of white as well as the baseboards and doors, but that is simple stuff I can finish up in a couple of days. I am going to shop for a new medicine cabinet this afternoon or tomorrow, and I need to clean up some other shelves that go in there, maybe put a fresh coat of paint on them too. I'm so excited! Or maybe just a little high on paint fumes. Whatever!

Go to the post below this one to find out about this week's music theme.

Music theme for the week

This week's music theme is Madonna. I love Madonna. She's independent, sassy, does what ever she wants, and makes it profitable. She has grown as a singer, actor, and person over the last twenty years or so. I'm not putting the videos in any specific order, just picking the ones I like.

Enjoy!

Next week's theme: Movie theme songs.

New Toy

Last weekend I started on my bathroom thinking it would only take a few days. Here it is a week later, and I am progressing rather slowly. The antibiotics I'm on are bringing me back to normal. So today I put a fresh coat of white paint on the baseboards on the side of the room I managed to get painted. I also have one new towel rack, and the toilet paper holder up.

So what about the new toy you ask?

Here it is:

A cordless drill. Not what you were expecting? Well, to put towel holders up correctly, you have to drill a hole and put anchors in first. That keeps it from falling out of the wall in a few weeks. It isn't very big, or powerful. Bigger doesn't mean better (well, except maybe ummm...nevermind). The important thing is that it is fairly light weight, meaning my girly wrists can hold it steady.

In other disappointing news, the medicine cabinet we rescued from our last place is messed up, so now I have to go buy a new one. I thought about getting one that sits on the floor, hanging those things is a pain in the ass. (I know, because I'm the one that hung that one in the old place.) But I really liked that one and it had an extra towel rack on the bottom. So I may just go buy another one just like it. I'm going hang the old one in the garage to keep stuff in. I don't like to waste stuff. Just because it isn't nice enough for my bathroom doesn't mean it won't be fine in the garage.

Fiction Friday

Just something little here. A setting a had in my head.

My favorite place in the world is my grandpa's cabin. He left it to me when he died because he knew I would take care of it, and pass it along to my children and grandchildren. He was born there, in the largest of the two bedrooms. He lived there all his life, raised two children until they went off to college. Grandma died twenty years before him, he stayed right there in that cabin until last year. He was 78 years old. It is a fairly simple cabin, has been in the family for five generations including my own. Electricity and a phone line were added over the years, but no cable. The only heat is from the old wood stove in the living area. There's no need for air conditioning here settled back off the road in the woods a bit. It's always shady.

This little cabin sits in the foothills only half an hour from the city. But when I sit on the porch with my first cup of tea for the day looking a the the deep purple morning glory climbing the porch railing and listening to the early birds, it's like I have gone a century back in time.

It's Springtime in Tennessee!

I spotted the first dafodils last week, and the last two days have been t-shirt weather. I have been anticipating it to be nice enough to work outside and now when it is I'm still sick. I feel better mostly, but I still get tired very easy. I did a couple of things yesterday afternoon, and a few more things today. I am trying not to overdo it but I don't want to get behind either.

How's the weather in your area?
