Mystery Girl ~ Part 2
Read Part 1 here.
Delia watched the red VW sputter off then she turned to walk the three blocks home. Her mind automatically reached out to "feel" her surroundings. A homeless man in the alley was asleep and dreaming of Thanksgiving dinner as a child. A father getting out of his car was rushing to see his boy before bedtime. The old man across the street walking his dog was eyeing her thinking dirty thoughts about her, but only to keep for himself later, he was harmless. There was nobody nearby thinking of her, looking for her.
The night was crisp and clear with a hint of fall in the air. She wrapped her sweater around her a little tighter as she turned the corner to go one more block. She let her thoughts stray back to Richard, the only person who had been able to track her down in five years. He must have some small talent himself. He managed to get people to remember her. She knew from his thoughts that he was tipped off about her weekly trip to the restaurant. That would have to stop now. It had been careless of her to have such a regular schedule.
Pulling forgotten details from someone would be a useful trick for her search. It must be why he chose journalism as a profession. She told herself that his talent was the reason she let him remember her tonight. That was why she would call him later. Why she would meet with him again and maybe ask for his help. The fact that he was adorable had nothing to do with it at all.
